GO PATRIOTS!

Let's hope for a Super Bowl Win!
Metcalf School was full of Patriot pride to celebrate the approaching Super Bowl weekend!  Students that came to school dressed in Patriot, or Falcon, ðŸ˜‰  team colors or jerseys were given an eraser to thank them for their Super Bowl spirit. Many also took part in a Patriot Dance Party on the stage as we waited for the school day to begin.  We are hoping all this Patriot power and positive energy that's surging through the Metcalf community will lead them to a big win on Sunday. Check out the Dance Party Fun we all had to start our day!

ROOSTER GAMES 2017!
Mark your calendars because Rooster Games will be taking place on Tuesday, April 11th at Metcalf. We have created a website with a link located under the parent tab on the Metcalf website.  Please visit this site to find lots of important information about these wonderful books and preparing for the Rooster Games. We will be looking for volunteers on Tuesday, April 11th to help supervise the exciting activities planned for the day.  Give me a call to let me know if you are interested in volunteering for the morning, afternoon, or the entire day!
Thank you to Mrs. Barbour and Mrs. Kilday for creating this fabulous sign to help our
students get excited to be a part of Rooster Games 2017!

CODING & FINCH ROBOTICS in GRADE 5!!
The Finch is a small robot designed to inspire and delight students learning computer science by providing them with a tangible representation of their code. There are a myriad of activities that can be done with the Finches. With light, temperature and obstacle sensors, buzzers, LEDs, accelerometers and even a pen mount for drawing, the options are limitless.  Students in Mrs. Hanley's 5th grade class have been learning so much!  They are amazed at the things they have been able to program these little robots to do...and say!

Thank you to Mrs. Kilday, Mrs. Hanley, and Ms. Ryan for all your hard work, expertise, and enthusiasm in bringing this experience to our students!
We can't wait to expand this program to the rest of our school!

Grade 6 Student Leaders!
Congratulations to these fabulous grade 6 students for their outstanding leadership qualities!
They were all recognized recently during lunchtime for working so well with Mrs. Murray to deliver important 6th grade guidance programs.  Students assisted in explaining & creating Individual Learning Programs (ILP) and exploring strategies to effectively deal with the stressors facing students approaching junior high school.  Thank you to Mrs. Murray and these student leaders!

Our First Annual 5th and 6th Grade Chorus Concert!
Kudos to Ms. Place and all our new chorus students for putting on a fabulous performance
for all our families to enjoy.
We can't wait for the in-school performances during the last week before February vacation.
Your classmates and teachers will be so proud of you!

WOW...Look at these Gods and Goddesses!
Mrs. Super and Mr. Levett's class transformed our cafeteria into a wax museum recently.  Students from the lower grades enjoyed coming in to learn about history and
see the Gods and Goddesses come to life before their eyes!

Morning Drop Off at Metcalf
First of all...THANK YOU!!  I sincerely want to thank our parents for remembering to follow the new traffic pattern.  I am looking forward to the arrival of spring to see improvements made to our new entrance which will include widening the new entrance area, as well as installing additional signage and lighting.  These will certainly be welcome improvements to the Metcalf campus!

Now a few reminders...for safety purposes, after you pull into the new entrance, please remember to proceed slowly up to the drop off area before your child exits the car from the rear, left side of your vehicle between 8:22 and 8:37 when dropping your child off in the morning. This is to ensure the safety of all students during morning arrival.  Additionally, please note the RI Child Car Seat Laws that I have been asked to provide as a gentle reminder to the Metcalf community.

Rhode Island Child Car Seat Laws:
  • Children under 8 years old, less than 57 inches tall, and/or weighing less than 80 lbs. must be transported in the rear seating position of a motor vehicle and properly restrained in a child restraint system.
  • Children between 8 to 12 years old must be wearing a properly fitting seat belt.
Thursday Morning Chorus:  Some questions have arisen regarding the arrival procedures for our chorus students that come to school early on Thursday mornings so we would like to clarify.  Please do not allow your child to walk from the parking lot and cross the crosswalk to the building without adult supervision at any point, as we do not have crossing guards available until 8:22.

  • If you arrive prior to 7:55 (which is when buses begin to arrive) you may pull into the new entrance, continue through the parking lot, and then pull around to the left and directly up to the curb in front of the school to drop your child off for chorus on Thursday mornings.  You will then be able to continue all the way around the school and exit the Metcalf campus.  You may also park your vehicle in the lot and see your child safely across the crosswalk to the building.
  • If you arrive after 7:55 (which is when buses begin to arrive) you must park and walk your child to the building.  You will not be able to pull up to the curb and around the building because buses will be in this lane.
  • Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions regarding chorus drop-off.  Thank you so much!
